When Did Your Life Begin?
At some point in time, both natural and miraculous, a sperm cell from your father joined with an ovum from your mother; at that precise moment, the moment of conception, your life began! From that moment you had all the genetic material - the blueprint of you- necessary to become the person you are. All you needed was nourishmet, protection, and time - nothing else needed to be added. You have experienced various things through your senses, and you have grown in knowledge and understanding and so your personality has developed - but genetically you are no different from that moment of conception.
And this is so for each of us.
It has been summarized in this way:“Physicians, biologists, and other scientists agree that conception marks the beginning of the life of a human being—a being that is alive and is a member of the human species. There is overwhelming agreement on this point in countless medical, biological, and scientific writings.” (Report, Subcommittee on Separation of Powers to Senate Judiciary Committee S-158, 97th Congress, 1st Session 1981, 7.)
We of Peace For Life believe in the inherent dignity of each person, born or yet to be born.
Our dignity does not come from our age, status, accomplishments, money, education or intelligence - nor is it taken away by a lack of these.
Each person's dignity comes to us as a gift: the gift of God's Love. His commitment is true and irrevocable, His Love and Mercy are steadfast. We can displease Him, anger Him, disappoint Him, but He will always Love us - He will always Love YOU!
It is often said a picture is worth a thousand words and these days we are Blessed to be able to see what a child looks like from the earliest days.
